19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on court had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the top level was over.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, supported by an better serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a close final set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
