Democratic officials demonstrated fury after Donald Trump alleged a group of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and declared they should be taken into custody and penalized "with execution" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Content That Provoked the Dispute

The video footage, shared on earlier this week, includes six Democratic elected officials who previously acted in defense or intelligence roles.

"Like us, you all made an pledge to protect and support this founding document," the officials affirmed in the short video. "Currently, the risks to our governing document don't only come from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our statutes are clear, you can reject illegal orders, you can reject illegal orders, you must decline illegal orders. No one has to follow orders that break the law or our national charter."

The Former President's Furious Response

The clip reportedly prompt a furious reaction from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump published on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he wrote: "This represents really concerning, and Harmful to our Country. Their statements cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials React

Following Trump's statements on that day, Democratic leadership issued a combined announcement censuring the comments.

"Violent politics has no position in America," they wrote. "Elected officials who were featured in the video all served our nation with great national pride and honor. We strongly denounce Donald Trump's offensive and harmful death threats against elected officials, and urge GOP representatives to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in communication with law enforcement "to ensure the safety of these officials and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must immediately remove these radical social media posts and withdraw his violent rhetoric before he causes harm," the declaration stated.

Officials' Defiant Reaction

The lawmakers who appeared in the video also issued a response.

"We serve as former service members and defense specialists who care for this United States and took an oath to protect and defend the national charter of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we intend to maintain it. No warning, pressure, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that fundamental obligation."

"The significant point is that the president views it liable to punishment by execution for us to repeat the statutes," they continued. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their support as they carry out their vow to the constitution and obligation to obey only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "Every American must join forces and condemn the ex-president's demands for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a period for principled stance."

More Partisan Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's remarks and posted on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the death of government members."

He stated: "This represents an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, each house member, every American – regardless of party – should condemn this immediately and unconditionally."

The Conservative official supported Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "treason", characterizing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have prominent officials of Congress advising soldiers to ignore directives, I think that is without precedent in US history."

The Republican leader also allegedly stated to media outlets that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the violation of sedition" but that "legal experts have to parse the wording and decide all that."

Administration Reaction

During a administration briefing on later that day, when inquired by a media member, "Is the president want to execute elected officials?", the White House press secretary responded: "Absolutely not."

"Let's be clear about what the former president is responding to," the representative stated. "You have current representatives of the US Congress who coordinated to orchestrate a recorded statement to individuals of the American armed forces, to current military personnel encouraging them to ignore the commander in chief's legal commands."

She stated: "The integrity of our military depends on the hierarchy, and if that system is compromised, it can lead to fatalities, it can lead to confusion, and that is exactly what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally encouraging."
