The mercury are expected to be chilly, so extra layers vital, said forecasters. To the north, conditions will be more overcast, but this is not anticipated to affect visibility for seeing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster. Extensive Snow Warnings for Friday Heading into Friday, weather warnings are active for Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and the majority of the south-east of England. Travel is expected to be impacted. Travelers should to leave additional time for trips on the road. Delays and cancellations are expected on trains and buses. The Mercury Expected to Fall Further With the start of 2026, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are set to fall even more as snowfall and high winds are likely to affect the north of the country. Approximately 10cm of snow could accumulate to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks. Public Health Alerts Released In addition, amber cold health alerts are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with temperatures likely to fall to between 3C and 5C. The health agency said this signified the weather was likely to cause significant impacts across medical and care provision.
