Outrage Erupts as Former President Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Backlash

Personalities from both sides of the partisan spectrum and the Hollywood industry are uniting to condemn former President Donald Trump for his comments following the shocking deaths of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Online Statement

After the couple were found dead at their Brentwood home, Trump took to his platform to label the deceased director as "tortured and struggling". In a message, he claimed Reiner's death was "because of the anger he provoked others through his enormous, unyielding, and incurable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post then pivoted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Arrest

Authorities have since confirmed the arrest of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in relation to the case. It is reported his bail was set at a substantial sum.

A Wave of Condemnation from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's words was immediate and harsh.

“What a appalling and despicable statement,” remarked public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, also criticized the statements. She referenced prior comments from Trump about political violence, demanding, "Do you have no decency? Is it possible to get any lower?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly stated, "He is a sick man."

Mirroring this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "He is a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own demise because they opposed him. So sick."

Criticism from His Own Political Ranks

Some Republican elected officials also voiced dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". Greene also alluded to struggles with addiction and mental health within families.

Another Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the nature of the deaths. He publicly dared members in his party to defend the comments.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a vocal critic of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the presidency. He had also cautioned about the dangers of autocracy should Trump be reelected to power.

"There is autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner said. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democratic systems crumble around the world."

Regardless of his strong criticisms, Reiner had in the past expressed "complete revulsion" and condemned political violence without reservation after the killing of another individual.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Providing a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the anecdote of the session, noting Trump's request for "special hairspray" as posing on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
