The English Team to Begin the European Championship 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the anticipated passage for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an Three Lions match since eight years ago, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to stage the national team for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean commencing the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Launch and Rally

The tournament was unveiled at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the site by about 50 activists, who demanded Israel to be removed from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Schedule

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will feature Wales if they qualify.

The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from next season, will cater to households and help reach a more diverse set of viewers.

Host Nations

The Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Venues and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and The North London arena finalize the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on December 6, 2026.
