It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
